June 12 Day 17 Chaplin to Regina 155k

Broke camp early and ate breakfast at the Silver Dollar Restaurant run by Susanna who agreed the night before at supper time to open just for us at 6:00 am. Thank you! And a huge delicious breakfast it was. It sure is tough to ride for 2 or 3 hours to get breakfast, so this was nice. Everywhere we stop we are meeting kind, generous and interesting people. We changed Tugs rear tire last night after a day of pumping it up very so often. Thought it was the valve because we could not find a leak in the tube when we changed it. But next morning, the whole thing started again after a few km. Took it apart and really studied the tube; a minute leak that was hard to find, helped us trace the problem to a spot on the tire (which we had marked so we knew which parts of the tube and tire overlapped). A tiny sharp metal splinter was hidden in the rubber of the tire. Problem solved. Countryside looked to be more wet and there were many of the usual wetlands, sloughs, etc along the road. Crosswinds began to challenge us as the day went on. The wind had a quartering headwind. Gradually we were finding that bike steering was harder as the side winds tended to gust. A real upper body workout! Also the roads had depressed bumps about every 40 to 50 feet, which was jarring on a loaded bike. We made it to Regina, booked into the Sherwood House Motel which is next to a sport bar and watched the 7th game of the Stanley Cup over dinner and a beer. 1924k behind us.
