June 8 Day 13 Pincher Creek to Tabor 158 k

Our first peek outside revealed ominous skies but no new snow and it was not raining. We layered well, covered ears, used full gloves and set out with our rain gear on. At first our bodies inside the suits warmed up well and we even sweated a bit but fingers and toes refused to stay warm, especially after we started riding into a headwind and then into a rather ominous looking fog bank which was damp and made the already freezing conditions worse. We kept at it, getting off frequently to walk around to reduce the windchill, warm toes and fingers, and thus made it to Fort MacLeod where we ate breakast and warmed up. The day was warming a bit but the headwind never really relented and we spent the day working against a persistent, moderate wind. We planned to camp in Taber but arrived thoroughly soaked inside our weather suits and in need of rewarming and drying out, so we went searching for a hotel only to find all but one of them full; it was the most expensive one. It was a relief to get cleaned up and warm.
