Day 6 June 1, Midland to Christina Lake 80K

Out of Midway early as usual. Decided to take the Canadian route rather than the shorter US loop to Grand Forks, although some had told us the Cdn route might be hilly. Turned out there were no real hills at all. And there was a really long, fast descent into Grand Forks. Breakfast was at Greenwood, the Anaconda Restaurant owned by Toby. Wonderful food, great lady. She serves up the best "Mexican" (Anaconda) omelet. Met a wonderful retired couple who were visiting; both were early-life residents of the area. Showney, as a young Japanese man, was relocated there during the War and met Jean, who was born there. Had a wonderful converstaion about internment, family and life. Showney made gifts of origami shirts from $5.00 bills, which we enjoy a real keepsakes. Tug and I are really starting to find our legs; felt good but opted for the shorter ride because of the big pass beyond Christina Lake. Christina Lake RV and Campground was a nice shady, quiet spot. Really enjoying the nature watching, and biking, although biking is very different with 40 lbs on board. The heavy bike is slower to respond to course correction so you do not want to let it get off course for even a moment, especially during high speed descents. Also climbing at slow speeds results in a lot of wobbles that are hard work to correct over a long climb. And clipping in at slower speeds is less safe since you can't free your feet fast enough.
