Jun 26 - Terrace Bay to White River 170km

Birthplace of the original Winnie the Pooh

Another good day of cycling, especially since Gary picked up a gastro bug yesterday that kept them another day in Terrace Bay, but since they covered 170km I would say he has recovered pretty well! Also looks like it gave Tug a chance to catch up on his blog with his always enjoyable insights.
Gary says they manoeuvred through a tricky situation in the morning when they came across a semi that had run head-on into a 1200 lb moose. The moose was killed and thrown into the opposite lane where vehicles coming in the opposite direction were looking straight into the sun. The semi that hit the moose was stopped in the other lane. Fortunately a trucker told them to stay clear and get out of the way in case someone tried to swerve around the moose. They then slowed traffic coming up behind them and a few others pulled the unfortunate moose off the lane before any further accidents happened. Before long they were on their way with a new appreciation of the size of a moose and the courtesy of truckers who knew they could be in danger and warned them away from a potentially nasty situation.
So they made it safely to White River where they discovered that the bear who became the model for Winnie the Pooh was born around White River - who knew?
On to Wawa tomorrow.
